My name is Paulinah Mothupi, Good Stories Marketing Executive; I had the pleasure to spend time with Hlengiwe Mkhize and her wonderful family as they took me though their journey of HIV/AIDS. Through this experience I learnt a lot about resilience, support, true meaning of love and family.

Hlengiwe Mkhize is such a free spirit, cheerful, speaks her mind which is was very refreshing as I got to know her better and was exposed to wealth of wisdom she possesses. She was born in Soshanguve, Pretoria on 25 January 1967. She grew up in this community and got married in the same community. She was married to an emotionally and slightly abusive man. She eventually, after a long period of time and perseverance managed to change his abusive ways by leading him to the church. They both became born again Christians and stopped the reckless life of consuming alcohol consistently but rather only occasionally through church or family celebrations. She worked at the local Masakhane hospital laundry mat and her husband was a sound engineer for State Theatre, meaning he traveled very often.

In 1991, they were blessed with a girl named and they named her Nokuthula. Unfortunately their relationship came to an end, Hlengiwe went through some difficult times and eventually blessed with a loving man, Mpho Msimango, that she’s married to today and they have a son together, Nkosinathi Blessing Msimango.
